“Art should not be reserved for a privileged few, art is for everyone.”
Carré D’artistes is focused on one task—bringing high-end original contemporary artwork to everyone. Buying original paintings from premier art galleries can be intimidating, expensive, and time consuming. Fundamental to the Carré d’artistes’ philosophy is providing customers an emotionally rich and unique art-buying experience. Our gallery environment is chic and welcoming, our customer service exceptional. Team members are sophisticated, kind, enthusiastic, and keenly knowledgeable about the art we sell.
Philadelphia’s Carré d’artistes is a groundbreaking business venture that aims to create a new American market for quality, original artwork at modest prices. We are bursting with depth, heart, and a creative passion to help people build an art collection at affordable prices. We also present an exciting variety of artistic genres, styles, and trends. Our business model is simple: four sizes, four prices. No two paintings are the same, and all pieces are certified and signed. All art can be framed inexpensively at the time of purchase, and we offer five different styles of frames in three different finishes.
The concept for Carré D’artistes began in Aix-en-Provence, France, in 2002; we are now over 30 galleries strong, in 11 countries worldwide, and growing fast. Each gallery’s modern interior is designed so that customers can easily survey a wide array of contemporary art while learning about the artists, their backgrounds, and their individual working styles. No two galleries represent the same artist; each month, artists are rotated to keep inventory varied and fresh. Working with over 600 artists from around the globe, we are constantly featuring new talent and styles..
At the heart of Carré d’artistes are the artists themselves. We consider our artists our partners, earning a fair portion of each sale. They are central to the success and mission of our gallery. We are committed to supporting and promoting artists with skill and potential at our gallery—renowned, emerging, or untrained—to fulfill their dreams of sharing their work with the world while earning a respectable profit. Above all, Carré d’artistes’ business is built on the mutual satisfaction of customer and artist alike.
Carré d’artistes Philadelphia owner, Debbie Morton, comes from a long line of culinary artists (father Arnie founded the international restaurant chain, Morton’s Steak House; brother Peter co-founded, The Hard Rock Café), but the visual arts have been her primary passion. After completing degrees at University of Pennsylvania and Harvard University, Debbie spent fifteen years as an award-winning documentary filmmaker, working in locations ranging from Las Vegas and London to Hong Kong, Manila, and Delhi. On a 2013 vacation in France she fell in love with a Paris-based Carré d’artistes gallery—not only the beauty of its collection, but the ethical vision behind its business model—and she invested herself in a new artistic direction. Carré d’artistes wrapped visual beauty and social consciousness into a totally fresh international business model that immediately captivated her. Philadelphia represents Debbie’s first US art gallery, with Carré d’artistes Chicago not far behind (opening in the spring of 2017). When not in her gallery, Debbie can be found soaking up family time with her three children and her husband, a professor of political philosophy at Swarthmore College.
