Laure paints nature in situ (outside). She sets her easel up around different country villages, travelling around the southern regions of France (Drôme, Alpes, Bouches-du-Rhône, Var) to find a subject: the rare gem that resonates deep within her being.
By painting on site, she becomes immersed in the subject and the lifestyle of the people that she observes. Everything inspires her: the light, warmth, noise, and odours that evolve throughout the day. She tries to restore their very essence. Simple things dazzle: a worn door, a vine on a rusted iron stake, a field…
Always with the goal of representing nature, she makes close ups of flowers and insects. These paintings are as if she is zooming in on parts of the landscape.
Laure also likes to paint nudes and portraits to play with the nuanced colours of skin and the languid shapes of bodies.
Laure uses mainly oil paints. She first creates the background with a brush and then structures the shadows and light with a knife. The same themes also inspire her works in watercolour.
Laure paints life and its transformations. She is humble and accepts to observe nature at its most simple in order to locate the exceptional. Laure’s paintings are seductive, delicate, at times magical or even strange, fiendish or unusual.
For Laure painting is a way to stay in touch with her roots, her senses and her sensitivity for nature.
