Carre d’artistes Art Gallery is thrilled to host a two-day Open Studio for acclaimed French cityscape painter, Julien Rey (from the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region in southeastern France). Rey’s live artist event will run from June 8, 2019 – June 9, 2019 (12pm- 8pm both days), with a private collector’s cocktail reception Friday, June 7th from 6pm -8pm. During the open studio, Rey will paint live, discuss his techniques, and sign artworks. This is an incredible experience for artists, collectors, and art lovers alike.
Julien Rey's unique technique of working varnish with a knife and gold leaf puts a light at the heart of his works. His representations of urban landscapes confront obscurity and light in contrasted compositions with impressionistic atmospheres. Rey's astonishing ability to paint as a colorblind person leads him to exclusively use a black and white palette with gold leaf. He describes his works as “fugitive rays” or “twilight flashes”, as he attempts to capture the changing moments between day and night where light becomes divine and emotions become intense.
